The 59th Bälz Prize (Boehringer Ingelheim), named after Dr. Erwin von Bälz, a German doctor who contributed to the development of modern medical science in Japan, was awarded at the German Ambassador’s residence on 2 December. The theme of this year’s “Bälz Prize”, which is awarded for excellent medical papers, is “Alzheimer’s disease – diagnosis, therapy, prevention -”. The Bälz Prize is endowed with 8 million yen (1st prize) and 4 million yen (2nd prize).
