From Survival to Coexistence: Quests for Global Justice and Dignity

Survival is a critical global issue as liberal norms collapse, international order fractures, and security is weaponized. As major powers bypass rules, can middle powers shape a new order, or will groups like BRICS propose alternatives? Furthermore, as traditional narratives are imposed on minorities and AI manipulates information, preserving human dignity is paramount.
The project “Explorations in Survival Strategies” addresses these challenges, viewing current turmoil as the end of the long twentieth century—from 1870s globalization to the US retreat from the liberal order in the mid-2020s. In partnership with the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies and the University of Regensburg, the final symposium invites interdisciplinary scholars to propose wisdom for a virtuous, dignified coexistence.
