The rule of law is the cornerstone of democratic societies, ensuring justice, stability, and trust across borders. In times of increasing global challenges, safeguarding this foundation requires cooperation, exchange, and innovation.
With the support of the German Federal Ministry of Justice, this symposium brings together leading experts and practitioners from Japan and Germany to explore current strategies for defending the rule of law. The program highlights perspectives from constitutional, criminal, and civil law, offering insights into how both countries address pressing legal challenges while reinforcing democratic principles.
Hosted at Waseda University, the event fosters dialogue between academia, the judiciary, and government representatives. Keynotes, panel contributions, and discussions will provide a platform for comparative perspectives and mutual learning, strengthening transnational understanding of how the rule of law can be protected in the 21st century.
