The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) promotes cooperation projects between German and international universities with various programs. Many of these can be used for joint research projects between German and Japanese universities.

The “Project Funding Programs” database provides an overview of all programs (in German). Some of these programs were announced as part of the central call for proposals on October 5th, 2023.

The call is planned for April 2024.

Particularly popular programs for cooperation with Japan include:

  • PPP Joint Research (project-related exchange of people), next call for proposals planned for 2024
  • PAJAKO – Partnerships with Japan and Korea, next call for proposals planned for 2024
  • Partnership programs with the universities of Waseda, Tsukuba and Kyoto, next call for proposals planned for 2024

Further information can be found in the database.
