Currently, in 18 schools, 840 professors, as well as more than 6,000 researchers work and teach at LMU. The areas of study are exceptionally extensive, featuring some 300 undergraduate programs and numerous possible curriculum combinations. There are now more than 54,000 students who make use of these offerings, 21% of whom are foreigners.

In addition to the numerous research links at faculty level with various Japanese institutions, LMU Munich has established a strategic partnership with the University of Tokyo (Todai) since 2007. Together, LMU and Chuo University in Tokyo as well as Seoul National University (SNU) have jointly established the Japan-Korea Partnership Program, which facilitates the exchange of academic staff between the law faculties of these three institutions.
