North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), one of the most important economic regions in Europe, Germany’s strongest economic output (GDP), largest population, and highest foreign direct investment (FDI). More than 160 million people live within a radius of 500 kilometers around the state capital Düsseldorf, representing almost one third of all consumers and 45 percent of purchasing power in the EU.

With its new hydrogen roadmap, the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia shows that achieving the Paris climate action targets and strengthening the economic and industrial location can go hand in hand. A quarter of the current CO2 emissions in North Rhine-Westphalia can be saved by hydrogen alone.

North Rhine-Westphalia is already working intensively to create the conditions for the establishment of a hydrogen economy and will intensify its activities. The state has set specific targets for each sector and one of it is the development of strategic international partnerships and cooperation with international companies.

At upcoming online investor event on 14. March 2022, jointly organized by NRW.Global Business and Germany Trade & Invest, German and Japanese experts will show why an investment in the German and North Rhine-Westphalian hydrogen and fuel cell market is attractive and profitable for Japanese companies.
