Energy Research Centre of Lower Saxony (EFZN)

Energy and hydrogen technology are central aspects of the research landscape in Lower Saxony. Since 2007, the EFZN has been active as a central research, networking and communication platform for the university locations of Braunschweig, Clausthal, Göttingen, Hanover and Oldenburg. Network partners are also other research institutions, e.g. German Aerospace Center, National Metrology Institute and several Fraunhofer Institutes in Lower Saxony. In addition, the EFZN is the first point of contact and a central forum for the future-oriented discourse between science, business, politics and society.

The main research areas at the EFZN locations include hydrogen and fuel cells, P2X technologies, materials science, battery technologies, solar energy, wind energy, networked energy systems / sector coupling as well as digitization and social sciences in the context of the transformation of energy systems. We do not only pursue our research goals from a scientific-technical perspective on individual technologies, but also consider them in their economic, social, legal and ethical contexts. The holistic solutions required for the transformation of the energy system can only be found through this interaction of disciplines.
