Nobel Prize in PhysicsNobel Prize in Physics Awarded to DAAD Alumnus
This year’s Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Prof. Dr Reinhard Genzel. He was awarded the prize with his American colleague Andrea Ghez for their research on black holes. Prof. Dr Genzel has previously received funding from the DAAD.

DFG to Fund Nine Trilateral Artificial Intelligence Projects
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is funding nine artificial intelligence projects in cooperation with the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR, France) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST, Japan). The nine projects selected to receive funding will be launched on 16 November 2020 at the 2nd trilateral AI Symposium.

Against that backdrop, the cabinet of Angela Merkel has introduced a hydrogen strategy that seeks to use hydrogen as a power source for manufacturing and transportation as one of the key measures to reduce CO2 emissions.

On June 10, the Federal Government adopted a National Hydrogen Strategy for Germany. Hydrogen is key for decarbonising key German sectors such as the steel and chemical industries and the transport sector. Furthermore, hydrogen technologies have the potential to become a key field of business for German exporters.

News: Autonomous Driving / Joint Press ReleaseJapanese Cabinet Office and BMBF intensify Japanese – German research cooperation
Japanese Cabinet Office (CAO) and The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) have now further intensified their cooperation on research activities related to autonomous driving, first initiated in 2017. The joint Steering Committee approved the funding of two new projects.
