The third edition of the German Research Fair took place on April 10, 2025 – a digital information and networking event for anyone interested in research, doctoral opportunities, and academic career paths in Germany. The event was once again organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo).

During the virtual fair, participants were able to gather information at the virtual booths of 20 German universities, research institutions, and funding organizations. A comprehensive seminar program also offered in-depth insights into career and funding opportunities in Germany.

Among the participating institutions were renowned German universities such as Heidelberg University, the Technical University of Munich, the University of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the University of Jena (Friedrich Schiller University Jena), the University of Bayreuth, the Technical University of Braunschweig, the Technical University of Berlin, Ruhr University Bochum, the University of Bonn and the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU). This academic spectrum was complemented by leading research organizations such as Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Leibniz Association, and the Max Planck Society. Key funding and support institutions also contributed significantly to the event, including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo), the Regional Office Tokyo of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Research Foundation (DFG), the JSPS Bonn Office (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), and the National Contact Point for Horizon Europe in Japan (EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation).

The fair recorded 447 registered participants and approximately 2,000 booth visits in total. Most participants came from the fields of natural sciences, engineering, and social sciences and were primarily pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree.

The majority of attendees were particularly interested in scholarships, PhD programs, and postdoctoral opportunities. Many also sought specific information tailored to their individual interests. One participant commented in Japanese: “I received information that wasn’t available online. Being able to ask questions directly really helped me – thank you!” (freely translated)
