Funding for university cooperation

DAAD Project Funding (September 2025, central call for proposals)

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) promotes cooperation projects between German and international universities with various programs. Many of these can be used for joint research projects between German and Japanese universities. On June 12, the popular program PPP for cooperation with Japanese universities was announced as part of the central call for proposals.

RISE Worldwide 2026

[Deadline: 2025/09/30] Are you interested in hosting a German research intern at your institution in Japan? In the past years almost 4,000 undergraduate students from German universities interned abroad as research assistants through the RISE Worldwide programme, which is now in its 17th year. And once more research groups from all over the world that are interested in hosting a research assistant from Germany in the summer of 2026 are invited to submit project offers to RISE Worldwide.

Austauschprogramm für Junior-Expertinnen und Experten (JEX)

[Deadline: 2025/09/14] Das Programm richtet sich an Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler bzw. zukünftige Führungskräfte öffentlicher Forschungsinstitutionen oder Forschungsabteilungen privater Unternehmen in Deutschland und Japan.

DWIH Tokyo Symposium – Innovations for an Aging Society (October 7)

[Deadline: 2025/07/31] The German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo) invites researchers, professionals, and innovators from Germany, Japan, and around the world to present their work at the upcoming symposium: Global Health: Innovations for an Aging Society on October 7. The poster session will provide a platform to showcase innovative research, pilot initiatives, and fresh ideas that address the societal and healthcare challenges of aging societies.

【JSPS】JSPS Bilateral Joint Research Projects/Seminars FY2026 Call Opened

[Deadline: 2025/09/03, 17:00 JST] Bilateral cooperative programs aim to form sustained networks of bilateral research teams (etc.) evolved from individual scientist exchanges. JSPS provides financial support to excellent Japanese scientists, including young scientists, implementing such bilateral joint research projects and seminars with research teams from counterpart countries. The FY2026 application call is currently open for submissions.

German Research Fair 2025

Am 10. April 2025 fand die dritte Ausgabe der German Research Fair statt – ein digitales Informations- und Netzwerkformat für alle, die sich für Forschung, Promotionsmöglichkeiten und akademische Karrierewege in Deutschland interessieren. Die Veranstaltung wurde erneut vom Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) und dem Deutschen Wissenschafts- und Innovationshaus Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo) organisiert.
